Choosing a diet for a quick weight loss program following Christmas and into the New Year may be just the pick-me-up we all need. This is the type of approach that many of us want went we wish to shed a few pounds rapidly. They may be for a special occasion when a particularly smaller dress size is needed or those trousers are just a bit too snug.

According to the US News & World Report, quick weight loss diets are only meant for the short term and are not a recommended lifestyle choice.

The top diet in virtually all categories is the Mediterranean Diet which appears to win as the best all-round diet to follow.

Which Are The Top 3 To Go For?

At the top of the list for 2021 is the Health Management Resources (HMR) Program which is now gaining credibility for its rapid results without too much compromise. The Atkins Diet and the WW (WeightWatchers) come in just behind this one both for popularity and ease of application.

The HMR program is all about lifestyle-changes coupled to weight reduction. It relies on reducing calorie intake using meal replacements. There is a heavy emphasis on consuming plenty of fruits and vegetables as a source of all forms of energy as well as vital vitamins and minerals.

The diet involves a starter kit which is currently close to $200. The kit includes 70 servings of HMR shakes and various main meals or entrees. There is also plenty of supporting information to help keep the dieter on track along with a weekly group coaching session. There are similarities too in the personal and group approach to Slimming World and the Rosemary Conley Diet approach although this is generally a more long-term approach. All items are shipped for free.

Of the other leading diets, the Atkins Diet perhaps has a longer and more established pedigree having started in 1972. Back then the noted cardioligist Dr. Robert Atkins devised a weight loss program for his patients.

The Atkins diet follows four phases of meal plans. At the beginning the carbohydrate intake is minimal so as to get the body ready for more carbs as the diet progresses. One of the main health issues with this diet however over the years is that dieters tended to consume more fat than desired because they were no longer taking in carbs. The diet is also more restrictive in food choice and the involvement of Atkin’s branded shakes, snacks and ready-to-eat meals has been of some concern. Some dieticians feel that it is unmanageable and can even cause weight gain if calorie intake is not monitored properly.

The Atkins diet though has its adherents and is regarded by many as a good starting point for developing a program in weight loss.

The WW diet is considered the best weight-loss diet as well as commercial diet in 2021 and has been with us too for many years. It is a well established system which uses group support as a way of maintaining weight following its loss.

  1. Really interesting to know about. I’m a nutritionist and thought you might like some more contributions from me. Totally agree about the Med. diet and I’ve always known this about the impact on self and lifestyle. Also agree on Atkins up to a point and I will comment on that article when I find it because I read it a few months back. All the best, Bronwen.

  2. I felt that not all these diets are suitable for me personally. I prefer the Rosemary Conley as it fits well with my hindi values and vegan beliefs.

  3. Nice little article on weight loss. I have read others you have on diets and I’m not always convinced as to whether they work or not. This is a good item.
