St John’s Wort is a widely used herbal supplement but there are a few provisos for its use.
Uses For St. John’s Wort:
Helping with mild-to-moderate anxiety, depression and insomnia.
Issues & Contraindications:
- Birth Control
St. John’s Wort is known to interfere with birth control and morning after pills. It decreases the levels of oestrogens in the body by increasing the metabolism of the liver which then renders birth control pharmaceuticals ineffective. If you are using birth control but need an alternative then L-theanine may be more effective. This amino acid is found in green tea and has a calming and relaxing effect without causing drowsiness or sleep.
I suggest taking L-theanine from suppliers like Solgar. Take a couple when waking up and then wait a few hours before taking the next dose. L-theanine helps manage mild stress and anxiety before it becomes too overpowering. The levels to take are between 100mg and 200mg, twice daily. If green tea is more your thing than a capsule, then try Pukka‘s green tea brand.
