Besan Burfi

Besan burfi is a delicious confectionary sweet.


  • 2 cups/200g besan/gram flour
  • 1 cup/200ml clarified butter ghee
  • 1 cup/125g caster sugar
  • ½ tsp green cardamom powder (ilachi)
  • 2 tablespoons/20 almonds, sliced
  • 1-12 pistachios, cut into thin slivers


  1. heat the ghee in a non-stick kadai, skillet or small frying pan.
  2. Add the gram flour and saute on a low heat with continuous stirring for 10 to 15 minutes. It should start to brown slight and become aromatised.
  3. Add the cardamom, almond and pistachios and mix.
  4. Remove from the heat and cool.
  5. Grease an ovenproof dish with ghee. Pour the mixture of gram flour into the tray and spread evenly with a spatula.
  6. Cut into squares and diamonds and then serve.

Store in an airtight container.
