Neem Seed Oil is an important product used mainly as an insecticide. The oil is extracted from the Neem Tree (Azadirachtin indica).
A herbal insect repellent from A. Vogel contains an extract of Neem seed oil known as Margosa. It is suitable for anyone, even those with a sensitivity to conventional insect repellents because it doesn’t contain any DEET, a synthetic and potentially toxic ingredient that appears in most repellents.

Properties
Neem insect repellent doesn’t harm clothing or spectacle frames, as with some other repellents. Neem Insect Repellent can be used on children, but make sure that it is applied by an adult and cover their eyes before spraying around the head.
The Neem tree has a long history of use in Indian culture and Ayurvedic medicine. It has long been known that Neem can act as an insect repellent – it was traditional practice to add a few Neem leaves to rice stored in homes to repel insects and other similar creatures.
Neem tree seeds and leaves contain a limonoid called azadirachtin which is a tetranortriterpenoid. (Limonoids are characterised by the presence of a furanolactone core structure). The component is responsible for many of the insecticidal properties of neem because it mimics insect hormones known as ecdysones which regulate the pupation of insects. Application of neem tree oil which contains azadirachtin upsets the development and pupation of insects. This activity ultimately kills them.
