Tabouli (also spelled tabbouleh) is a traditional Middle Eastern salad made with parsley, mint, tomato, onion, olive oil, lemon juice, and bulgur wheat. Here’s a classic recipe on how to do it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup bulgur wheat
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh mint
  • 2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 red onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

  1. Rinse the bulgur wheat in cold water and drain well.
  2. Place the bulgur wheat in a large bowl and pour the boiling water over it. Cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, or until the bulgur is tender.
  3. Fluff the bulgur with a fork and let it cool to room temperature.
  4. Add the chopped parsley, mint, diced tomatoes, and red onion to the bowl with the bulgur.
  5. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  6. Pour the dressing over the tabouli salad and toss everything together until well combined.
  7. Chill the tabouli salad in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  8. Serve chilled and enjoy your delicious tabouli salad!

Note: You can adjust the amount of herbs, vegetables, and dressing to your liking. Some people prefer more or less lemon juice and olive oil. You can also add cucumber or bell pepper to the salad for extra crunch and flavor.
