Stemonine (Stemona japonica)

Radix Stemonare root extract contains the active component stemonine (CAS No.27185-78-0). Stemonine is a natural organic insecticide ideal for those involved in organic farming and looking for treatments to protect horticultural products. It is a contact poison.

The extract comes specifically from a plant Stemona japonica (Bl.) Miq with alternative names of:-

  • Stemona ovata Nakai
  • Stemona argyi (H. Lév. et Vaniot) H. Lév.
  • Roxburghia japonica Blume
  • Helwingia argyi H. Lév. et Vaniot

The Chinese name is Baibu.

The insects  poisoned are maggots, wigglers, bedbugs, citrus ahpids, crambids, cutworms and nematodes generally. It is harmless to other wildlife with a low toxicity.

In humans, it is claimed to help relieve cough and reduce dryness by encouraging moistness in the lungs.
