Damaged hair -what a nightmare ?

Damaged hair is a threat to your image and appearance, your well-being and overall demeanor. Actually these were the thoughts of a leading hair care specialist I heard in passing at a coffee shop, but the thought is there. However, reviving damaged hair is no easy matter but there are products in the marketplace which truly help.

Damaged hair usually means the hair strands have been broken. There are breaks in the keratin protein fibres which make up hair. To overcome this problem means growing new hair and I can’t recommend enough the article that covered the types of food you can eat to help maximise hair growth (see article). However when it comes to hair, there are a few pointers and products which really do help. Look out for the following:-

  • a sulphate (sulfate) free shampoo and conditioner.
  • avoid products high in alcohol (ethanol) and peroxide. Go for gentle !
  • Use a light oil, pomade, mousse or gel to control frizz, and look for styling products that will reinforce damaged hair by infusing protein, amino acids and other strengthening properties. If necessary, finish with a light hairspray.
  • Look for products containing coconut oil. Never mind the nice smells and aromas or the fancy names its the oil which usually has the biggest impact. One conditioner which has strong appeal for many because it not only has large amounts of coconut oil in it but vanilla extracts and the essence of a very rare flower called tiare is:- OGX Extra Strength Damage Remedy + Coconut Miracle Oil Conditioner.
