Renshen Shouwu (RSSW) is an extract that is a complex mix of herbs used in Traditional Chinese medicine. It is quoted in the Chinese Pharmacopeia as a treatment for a variety of conditions such as:-
- neurasthenia,
- forgetfulness,
- inappetence (loss of appetite),
- insomnia
- excessive tiredness and fatigue, lassitude
- greying hair.
The mechanisms of activity are not currently known.
RSSW is composed of Ginseng (Root of Ginseng-Panax ginseng C.A. Mey) and fleece-flower root (Radix Polygoni Multiflori-Polygonum multiflorum Thunb). It contains however a number of other ingredients which include Hong Shen, Gou Qi Zi, Tu Si Zi, Dang Gui, Bu Bu Zhi, Zhi Shou Wu, Dang Shen.
Studies in rat suggest it would be a potential treatment for ischaemic stroke (Li et al., 2020).
