Hotter days are certainly making there way here in the Northern hemisphere. An ice float typically refers to a beverage or dessert where a scoop or scoops of ice cream are ‘floated’ which means placed in my book on top of a carbonated or non-carbonated beverage. The ice cream floats on the surface, creating a creamy and refreshing treat. Some popular examples include root beer floats, Coke floats, and Dr Pepper floats. The combination of the fizzy drink and the creamy ice cream creates a delightful contrast in flavors and textures. Ice floats are often enjoyed with a straw and a spoon to sip and scoop the beverage and ice cream together.
It struck me that we don’t make enough of the ice-cream float and I’ve just read about one using Dr Pepper soda. You can use Blue Bell vanilla ice cream but this brand is not available everywhere. The first point though is how to make an ice float in the first place. Try this recipe which is one that seems to be popular throughout Youtube for example as well as many US online articles with those two iconic brands.
The one here is for Dr Pepper but I would also like to see what people make of other colas and ice-creams.
- Gather the ingredients: Dr Pepper soda and Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.
- Chill the Dr Pepper soda in the refrigerator or add ice cubes to it for a colder float.
- Take a tall glass or mug and fill it about halfway with Dr Pepper soda.

A curious one for me because Blue bell is not in the UK as far as I know. It is a Texas brand and a beloved brand in several regions, particularly in the Southern United States, where it originated. People often have a connection to the brand and feel a sense of pride in supporting a local favorite. Blue Bell certainly has limited distribution in particular areas of the US, which does create a sense of exclusivity and desirability. People who have limited access to Blue Bell Ice Cream I believe perceive it as a special treat and appreciate it even more.
