How to Prepare Pulled Pork Burgers

Ingredients:

For the Pulled Pork:

  • 4-5 pounds (1.8-2.3 kg) boneless pork shoulder or pork butt
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth

For the Burgers:

  • 6 burger buns
  • 1 cup coleslaw (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup sliced pickles
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

For the Fresh Coriander Garnish:

  • 1 cup fresh coriander leaves, washed and chopped

Preparing the Pulled Pork:

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to create a spice rub.
  3. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, ensuring even coverage.
  4. Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a roasting pan.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix the barbecue sauce and chicken broth. Pour the mixture over the pork.
  6. Cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for about 3-4 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreds.
  7. Once cooked, remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Then, use two forks to shred the meat.

Assemble the Pulled Pork Burgers:

  1. Toast the hamburger buns lightly.
  2. Place a generous amount of pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun.

  1. Arrange the pulled pork burgers on a serving platter.

Notes:

  • You can adjust the spice levels of the pulled pork by adding more or less chili powder and black pepper according to your preference.
  • If you have a slow cooker, you can also cook the seasoned pork shoulder on low for 8-10 hours until tender.
