How to Prepare Branzino

The Branzino for 4 people is really this one.

Branzino, also known as European sea bass, is a flavorful and delicate fish that can be prepared in various ways.

Ingredients:

  • 2 whole Branzino fish (about 450-500 grams or 1-1.1 lbs each), scaled and gutted
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Olive oil
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)
  • Fresh herbs (such as parsley or dill) for garnish

Preparation:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Rinse the Branzino fish inside and out under cold water. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  3. Make a few diagonal slashes on both sides of the fish, about 1 inch apart. This will help the fish cook more evenly and allow flavors to penetrate.
  4. Season the fish generously with salt and pepper, both inside the cavity and on the skin.
  5. Drizzle a little olive oil over the fish and rub it in, ensuring all sides are coated.
  6. Place the fish on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  7. Roast the Branzino in the preheated oven for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the flesh is opaque and easily flakes with a fork. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the fish, so keep an eye on it to prevent overcooking.
  8. Once cooked, remove the fish from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes.
  9. Transfer the Branzino to a serving platter and garnish with fresh herbs such as parsley or dill.
  10. Serve the Branzino immediately with lemon wedges on the side. The fish can be served whole, and each person can fillet their portion at the table.

Branzino pairs well with a variety of side dishes such as roasted vegetables, steamed greens, or a fresh salad.
