Padina pavonica is a Mediterranean seaweed which you might often see on the ingredients list of various anti-aging creams and cosmetics. The common name is Peacock’s Tail and is a brown algae from the Pheophycaea family. It has to be harvested by hand which makes it expensive to use.
It is used to moisturise skin because it is rich in various polysaccharides and fatty acids. It is meant to produce a firmer, more supple skin. The polysaccharides are designed to hold water which are incorporated within the skin.
