Shaddharana churna – An Ayurvedic Formulation

FoodWrite Ltd is often asked if there is any value in Auyurvedic formulations. Given that so many pharmaceutical organisations are evaluating compounds from natural sources because of their rich diversity and properties, it’s no wonder Ayurvedic formulations offer rich potential.

One is Shaddharana churna, which has been in use for centuries. It was known about in Aurvedic medical treatises such as the Ashtangasangraham and Ashtanghridaya. The name tells us that six drugs are used in equal parts. These are Katuka, Daruharidra, Ativisha, Chitraka, Patha, and Indravaya.

Each element offers a particular pharmaceutical active.

The key actives are berberine and plumbagin.

The role of Shaddharana churna is reviewed in the context of Rukshana Karma as a clinical practice (Dhamankar & Jadhav, 2017).
