Description

The Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky was first released in the Spring of 2014. It is one of two Distiller’s Reserve single malt whiskies from the Japanese distillery, Suntory. It is an acclaimed whisky which is full of fruity berry notes because the whisky is matured in Bordeaux wine casks, Mizunara casks and sherry casks. All these casks lens a special characteristic woody and oak note that is only found in this particular whisky.

Tasting Notes

Aroma:  A wonderful nose of mainly soft red berries, especially strawberries with dried, berry fruits. The floral notes are derived from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood with some coconut. Certainly a whisky where you could get lost in its nose!

Palate: The dried berries remain lively on the palate and is said to develop some autumn raspberry notes along the way.  There is a slight hint of light oakiness, white Prunus especially peach and a small amount of allspice.

Finish: The vanilla oakiness continues to delight but with a spicy, sweet cinnamon hint acting as a final flourish.

Overall: Top quality Japanese whisky, and excellent value too. Award winning. Can’t go wrong with this, really. Enjoy it neat or as a base for a highball cocktail !
