1 review for Sage by Heston Blumenthal BBM800BSS the Custom Loaf Pro Bread Maker – Silver

  1. Richard Brown

I have had a few bread makers in my time. I bought this for the house just before Xmas and frankly I think it’s the ideal gift ! It’s quite expensive but it works extremely well. We did some research on breadmakers and I’ve been disappointed with the results checking reviews on other machines but I would recommend Sage to anyone based on our current experience. It is the first appliance from this business and we got it through John Lewis (not Amazon because of their returns). The instruction book is very clear although I wish it would be a little less detailed.

I don’t really need the recipe book but it does help you understand how the functions work together. We have a couple of bread maker books and I recommend one I picked up from WHSmiths. The wholemeal bread recipes are what we look for. So far, the best bread we’ve had with a great crust and a better size for us. Tried a few of the recipes for making dough (pizza for fun, pasta and so on) which we then use for baking or working with in a proper cooker. That dough mixing function is excellent.

The machine is large. We had to make a bit of space as its too heavy to move in and out of a cupboard. Our past machines were just light enough but as we get older, it’s not straightforward. Room is needed for lifting the lid incidentally. It does however have quite a presence with its chrome exterior.

The machine is straightforward to use and the loaf pan is easily washable. With our previous kit, we found burn-on of bread which is a pain to clean without soaking the whole bowl. One word of caution though. make sure the collapsible paddle is cleaned properly because in past machines it wont rotate properly when it gets fully gunged up.

General impression is get this one which is irrespective of the cost here. I’m quite techy so for a man this is a gadget and a half. The preset programmes are fine for anyone who just wants to put a bread mix. I like fiddling with the buttons and getting the right crust top is what is most enjoyable. One for the bread artist !
