Butea monosperma (syn. Butea frondosa, Butea braamania and Plaso monopserma) is one of the most beautiful flowering tress anywhere in the world. It is often known as the ‘Flame Of the Forest’. the flowers are composed of five petals comprising one standard, two smaller wings and a very curved beak-shaped keel. It is this keel which gives it the name of Parrot Tree.

The tree grows widely in India where it has a medium size, growing to between 20 and 40 feet high. the trunch is often crooked and twisted with irregular branches which gives it a striking appearance.
The flowers are often used to produce pigments for festivals like Holi.
