Beef Chow Mein Recipe (for Two Servings)
Ingredients
- 200g beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 100g chow mein noodles
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 medium onion, sliced
- 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1/2 cup bean sprouts
- 2 green onions, sliced into 1-inch pieces
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger
Marinade
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp oyster sauce
- 1/2 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp cornstarch
Sauce
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup beef or chicken broth
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp cornstarch, dissolved in 1 tbsp water

- Large skillet or wok

- Pot (for boiling noodles)

Preparation
- Prepare the Beef
In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch for the marinade. Add the sliced beef, toss to coat evenly, and marinate for about 10–15 minutes. - Prepare the Noodles
Cook the chow mein noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside. - Make the Sauce
In another small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, beef broth, sugar, and cornstarch mixture. Set aside. - Cook the Beef
Heat half of the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until browned and nearly cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside. - Cook the Vegetables
In the same skillet, add the remaining vegetable oil. Add the garlic, ginger, onion, and bell pepper. Stir-fry for 2 minutes until fragrant and vegetables are slightly tender. - Combine and Finish
Return the beef to the skillet, add the cooked noodles, bean sprouts, green onions, and sauce. Toss everything together and cook for another 2–3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and evenly coats the noodles and ingredients. - Serve
Divide the chow mein into two bowls and serve hot.
