Mycetia cauliflora

Mycetia cauliflora Reinw. (Rubiaceae) is a traditional remedy to manage and ameliorate the clinical signs of inflammatory diseases, including pain, inflammation, ulcers, and wounds.

A methanolic extract can modulate many aspects associated with inflammation. This extract has been studied with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced macrophage-like cells (Jeong et al., 2019). The extract reduced (downregulated) the release of nitric oxide (NO), reduced the mRNA expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and the mRNA expression of interleukin (IL)-1β from these cells. The enzyme, phosphoinositide-dependent kinase-1 (PDK1) was affected by this methanolic extract. PDK1 is a key enzyme in the nuclear factor (NF)-κB signaling pathway.
