What is Tongkat Ali?

Tongkat Ali has long been used as natural testosterone booster. It has the alternative name of Long Jack as well as Pasak Bumi in Indonesia and Cay ba binh in Vietnam.

An extract is obtained from the roots of a plant called Eurycoma longifolia.

Description

It grows as tall slender and shrubby tree in most southeastern countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar (Burma). Most Tongkat Ali is commercially grown in Malaysia. The tree grows to 20m in height with leaves that are between 20 and 40 cm long. The root is harvested for its extracts.

The tree grows in very humid tropical climates in the rainforest where the rainfall is between 20cm and 30cm annually. The temperature is always between 25 and 30 Centigrade. It is usually propagated by seed with a high germination level of 90% which makes it ideal for reforestation.

The roots are harvested after three years and will supply between 800g and 1,200g of root every year. The cultivation is ideal for local tribespeople.

Phytochemistry

Water extraction produces a solution rich in triterpenes and one in particular is of interest called eurycomanone. A variety of proteins, carbohydrates and saponins are also extracted.

Tongkat Ali is used as a testosterone booster, to improve men’s fertility, their libido and ac as a tonic.
